TITLE: Human Resources Generalist
REPORTS TO: Vice President of Human Resources
STATUS: Non-exempt; full-time, 40 hours per week
LOCATION: Minneapolis, hybrid eligible
COMPENSATION: $29.36 to $34.35 per hour
Job Summary
The Human Resources Generalist will run the daily functions of the Human Resources (HR) department. This position is responsible for administering HR policies, procedures and programs; supporting the department’s efforts in employee relations, employee onboarding, leaves, general administrative tasks, recruitment efforts, as well as enforcement of company policies and practices.
RESPONSIBILITIES & ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Education and Experience. Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field required. At least one year of human resource management experience preferred. SHRM-CP a plus.
Knowledge and Skills. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Excellent interpersonal and conflict resolution skills. Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail. Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Thorough knowledge of employment-related laws and regulations. Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite. Demonstrated cultural competency skills and commitment to contributing to an inclusive working and learning environment.
Abilities. Ability to prioritize tasks. Ability to act with integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality.
Physical Demands. Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer. Must be able to lift 15 pounds at times.

RESPONSIBILITIES & ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Maintain compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, and recommended best practices; review policies and practices to maintain compliance
- Research and recommend equity and inclusion practices for integration into policies, procedures, hiring, development and evaluation practices
- Handle employment-related inquiries from applicants, employees, and supervisor, referring complex and/or sensitive matters to the Vice President of Human Resources
- Recruit, interview, and facilitate the hiring of qualified job applicants for open positions, collaborating with departmental managers to understand skills and competencies required for openings; provide guidance and support for faculty hiring
- Conduct or acquire background checks and employee eligibility verifications
- Implement new employee orientation programs
- Manage training requirements and programs to address personal, professional, and organizational needs of employees and departments, including tracking and documentation of training as required
- Prepare materials for, and attend and participate in, employee disciplinary meetings, terminations, and investigations as requested
- Maintain accurate and correctly filed human resources records
- Create, update and distribute human resource forms, job descriptions, and organizational charts
- Gather, track and report human resources metrics
- Administer the bi-annual benchmarking processes with guidance from the Vice President of Human Resources
- Serve as back-up for payroll processing
- Other duties as assigned
