JOB SUMMARY
MacPhail Center for Music has a 35-year history of supporting music education instruction at Ascension Catholic School in North Minneapolis. Our after school strings program, influenced by both Suzuki and El Sistema principles, represents our strong commitment to partnerships with area schools. We are seeking an experienced violin instructor to lead sectionals and support instruction three days a week during the school year for students grades 4-8.
RESPONSIBILITIES & ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
QUALIFICATIONS
Education: A degree or certification in music education or violin performance
Experience: Minimum of three years of instruction to a variety of experience levels. Experience teaching groups and strong classroom management preferred. Experience in diverse K-12 settings preferred.
Skills & Abilities. Effective communication and organizational skills. Demonstrated cultural competency skills and commitment to contributing to an inclusive working and learning environment. Candidates proficient in Spanish are encouraged to apply.
Physical Demands: Frequently (approximately 2/3 of the day) sitting, repetitive wrist motion, grasping/pinching, bending at knees, and twisting at the neck. Occasionally (approximately 1/3 of the workday) lifting (up to approximately 10 lbs), standing, keyboarding, writing, bending at waist, twisting at the waist and turning/pivoting.

- Teach sectionals and small groups of students as well as support a musicianship class
- Foster a consistent and positive environment for students
- Strong collaboration and communication with other faculty and staff
- Provide clear communication with students and families
- Take regular attendance and communicate needs with site coordinator
- Complete timely progress reports for students twice per year
- Participation in School Partnerships faculty meetings and professional development
- Engagement in the overall work and mission of MacPhail Center for Music
- Compliance with our COVID-19 policies
- Other duties as assigned
